1) There are so many tourists nowadays that many countries have built their economies on tourist industry. But some researches observe situations when the locals are having problems with foreigners who came to their countries for tourism because of cultural differences. Let us consider whether the problem is an overwhelming one, or the conflicts are rare and accidental.
First and foremost, tourism is a way of getting acquainted with other cultures, so the fact that tourists do not know local traditions is normal. It is well known that many Asian or Arab countries have specific and not very foreigner-friendly cultures, so it takes a lot of wisdom and tolerance for both tourists and locals to communicate and not insult each other. Regretfully not everybody can understand it, but still there are more of the reasonable ones, who solve the arising problems in a peaceful way. At the same time, those countries, which opened their borders to tourists quite a long time ago, have already managed to adapt to the possible tensions. When a tourist comes to China or Japan, he is met by a big number of signs, translated specially for foreigners to English. All of these signs show what he is allowed or not allowed to do, so if he doesn't follow these rules he either has ill manners or bad intentions.
On the other hand, some governments for political reasons need to discredit people of other nationalities, religion or culture to achieve their goals. In this case, tension is created on purpose, so there really are some situations in which tourism leads to misunderstanding between people and cultures.
Summarizing all the written it should be said that the statement that tourism raises tension between cultures isn’t correct in general. Any conflicts in this sphere are a matter of dialogue and understanding between concrete people, not cultures. (308 words)
2) It is commonly known that the older a person is, the more conservative attitude to life he has. However many people consider conservative ideas out of time and don't see a way how they can help younger generations to live in this modern world. Let's figure out who is right and why.
The problem of fathers and children is well-known from classical literature. It is just as old as the society is, but has no universal solution. Finding a balance between old and new ideas is the key to understanding between the generations. Old ideas are time-tested and when speaking about general matters of life and behavior they tend to be better then the new ones. An old or, better say, classical way of thinking brought many great scientists, artists, politicians and philosophers to our society. Moreover traditional doesn't always mean old-fashioned. No new ideas appeared out of thin air - their basis lies in hard work and experience of previous generations.
At the same time, I can’t avoid mentioning that we live in a world that changes so fast that the heredity of ideas is often broken. So trying to teach new generations using out of date ideas means not preparing them to the modern world. In order not to harm them we should run the pace of this fast changing world and deliver our children the best contemporary ideas that we can find.
In conclusion I would like to say that the only way to prepare new generations to living in this time is building their morals and behavior on classical eternal ideas, but in the matters concerning the way they live, it is best to adopt contemporary concepts and use imagination to create a blend of old and new thoughts in their heads. 3) Today people can afford eating not only the food that they have caught and found, with the diversity and ease you can get every product, we are open to new recipes in everyday cuisine. Let's think of how this fact changed our life to the better.
Living in a city and getting out of the flat the first thing you see is some kind of place where you can eat. It can be a restaurant or just a small tent, but if you have money you can taste a big variety of dishes. No doubt, such opportunity is a great improvement in your life. At the same time, cooking has become a very widespread hobby, so having a cooker, an oven, a fridge, a dishwasher is a usual thing nowadays. The progress has made cooking much easier - today you don't have to set fire in a baking oven, don’t even have to wash dishes by hand. My grandmother had a special large book in which she wrote down recipes and where she found new ones. It was a difficult and time-taking task, but today you can find any recipe you want in the internet. So technology and progress have made cooking and eating out really simple.
On second thought, the ease of cooking and finding places to eat has its own disadvantages too. The problem of overweight people is one of that most widespread medical problems in the world. In addition to that, many people believe in myths about the harmfulness of new technological solutions to health such as, for example, microwave oven - attempting to find out the truth is not worth trying in this case.
By way of conclusion, it can be said that the easiness of preparing food has, no doubts, improved our life, but the problems it brought us, need to be solved as fast as possible. (311 words)
4) International tourism is one of the best and easiest ways to develop your economy. Attracting many tourists to your country brings great revenues to your budget but at the same time may be harmful to the ecology. I stick to the opinion, that international tourism gives more advantages than threats to the country, that is visited by tourists.
To begin with, tourists help the local economy grow. We would never know about a small island of Phu Quoc in Vietnam without it attracting millions of tourists annually. It made the growth of profits of the locals possible. Moreover international tourism brings new drivers to the country's economy - tourism business is not the only sphere that grows. Building the infrastructure, renovating the sights and manufacturing souvenirs can bring the stagnating economy to life. And all the mentioned is possible just thanks to tourists. At the same time tourists are usually quite educated people with sustainable revenues. The main task of the local officials is to make them interested in conservation of local nature and receive donations from them. A new branch of tourism named ecotourism is based on this principle.
From the other point of view, local nature would never need conservation if not spoiled by tourists. For example, the fact that the Baykal would be visited by over 1 million of Chinese tourists yearly, makes me worry about the future of this unique and beautiful place.
On a final note, international tourism is both a curse and a blessing for local environment, but because of the fact that the profits, gained from it, can be used for further conservation of nature, it should be considered as a positive phenomenon for the country. (281 words)
5) Achieving success is one of the main goals of human life. To succeed in doing something you have to work hard, so that some day your hard work pays off. But in some cases you do everything that depends from you, but still miss just a bit of something to reach your goals. I think that the thing you miss is luck.
Working hard is the only thing you can do, if you want to get anything in your life. But our life is absolutely unpredictable, so working hard can lead you the point when you have to make just one more step in order to have what you want. But at this point something, maybe God, maybe fate, plays a trick on you and the success, seeming so near, gets away from you. That's just the point where luck is needed. Sometimes you can succeed just because of sheer luck. The brand name «Google» is famous for its creativity, but it is just a misspelled googol - one of the cofounders didn't have enough knowledge of English to spell the number correctly.
At the same time it is known that hard work brings you luck. In real life working hard makes a good basis for attracting luck. In fact, it is not simply luck, when you work hard you can predict those problems that will arise, and, maybe unconsciously, try to fix them even before finishing your work. And the most amazing thing about this fact is that the more you work the more lucky you are, even if the situation you were lucky at is not directly connected to your work.
To sum up, everybody needs some luck in their life, but without working hard, it won't matter in most cases, are you lucky or not. (297 words)
6) The contemporary system of education tends to divide all students according to their abilities. The public opinion on this matter is ambivalent - some people say that it's unfair because not every ability of a student can be found at school. Let's discuss what approach is better.
The schools that have divided education say that this system is better because every student is taught in a group of other students with similar academic abilities. It makes possible to give better education for those who have high abilities, and still keep an average level of knowledge of students with the lower abilities without interrupting more able ones. The apologists of this system state that it gives less psychological pressure on students, because they don't have to catch up with the most talented.
The opposite point of view is that all the students should be taught together. The supporters of this position say that the fairest thing is to teach all the students together because nobody is insulted by being called less talented than another. In addition, the talents of the students cannot be found by the mentors all at the same time. Some students become more able with time, so dividing the students into groups according to their academic abilities on some concrete point of time is unreasonable.
In my opinion, the first mentioned system is applicable in private schools, where people pay to get the best education possible. In this case it is fair to give their children most that school can provide, in order to do that it's necessary to create groups of students according to academic abilities. In public schools everybody deserves to be taught this same things at the same level - being equal in this case is the fairest thing. So for such kind of schools it's better not to divide students according to their abilities and talents. (310 words)
