Cyclepods Ltd, founded by James Steward and Natalie Connell, offers customers a new product helping to save space within a city. Their current invention is a Cyclepod. It is environmentally-friendly cycle storage unit, which manages to secure eight cycles in a two-meter diameter. It holds bicycles in a vertical position so that they are visible and their most expensive and highly-targeted parts remain secure.
The government spent more money on green initiatives, promoting healthy lifestyles. More cyclists means more storage space for bikes is needed. After the first year of trading, Cyclepods Ltd had eight major customers, including Pepsi and Reebok. So, since then there has been an increased demand. But despite the apparent success, the company cannot meet the demand.
The key economic problem asserts that an economy’s finite resources are insufficient to satisfy all human wants and needs. James and Natalie faced this issue too. As the production is slow and costs a lot, the company does not have enough money to invest in mass production. It does not have any stock, which means that all Cyclepods are made to order. As a result profit margins are rather low.
Cyclepods Ltd certainly faces a cash-flow crisis because of some flaws. Those can be: shortcomings of entrepreneurs’ business plan because of lack of experience or too low product price in comparison with production costs. But despite all the drawbacks, the company offers an innovative product, which by the way, contributes to raising ecological awareness. In my opinion, it is a great invention, which must be an integral part of big city streets. It will serve to save much space of crowded pavements. Targeted audience includes big companies rather than individuals. Among them can be theaters, cinemas, cafes, restaurants, supermarkets etc.
Speaking about possible solutions, the following things can be offered. First of all, as Cyclepods are really environmentally-friendly, which is now important, the company can increase the price of each unit by 10%. Besides, it is essential to review, and if necessary, rewrite their business plan, involving some professionals to help them. Moreover, it would be great to find investors that can pay for production costs. The last but not the least is to invest to marketing and advertising, which will certainly attract attention of large companies and maybe of ecological organizations. And in my opinion, James and Natalie should take part in competitions of young entrepreneurs, where they can win because their invention is really helpful and worthy.
