Ознакомительный фрагмент работы:
Introduction
One of the crowned centenarians of Britain, 88-year-old Elizabeth II, Queen of England
attracts the views of the world press and the enthusiastic sympathies of millions of people around
the world. Today, the persona of this long-lived British royal family causes about as many
responses in the press as the best world stars of show business.
In its popularity, Elizabeth 2 surpasses such famous countrymen as David Beckham and
Paul McCartney! The recent events associated first with the 85th anniversary of Her Majesty,
and then with the 60th anniversary of her reign were met by the British with amazing warmth
and sympathy.
What is the reason, first, for such a long sane reign, and secondly, for the continued civic
activity of this most popular figure on the shores of Albion?
In my work, I will try to highlight the main points from the life of Queen Elizabeth,
which, on the one hand, formed her character and, on the other hand, to identify.
How her personality influenced the events that took place. These questions are especially
important because Elizabeth is one of the greatest queens in the world, who was able, after so
many years in power, to leave behind England the greatest power in the world.
The purpose of the study: To get acquainted with the biography of Queen Elizabeth II
Tasks:
1. Explore the Queen's personal life
2. Analyze the duties and working day of the Queen
3. Find information about the queen's interests and hobbies
4. Get acquainted with interesting facts from the biography of Queen Elizabeth II
1. The Queen's personal life
In 1939, when Elizabeth was just 13 years old, at Dartmouth Naval College, which the
royal couple attended, she met her future husband, Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. As Elizabeth
later admitted, she fell in love with Philip at first sight – and only later learned that on his
mother's side he was a direct descendant of Queen Victoria.
It all ended with Philip making a marriage proposal to Princess Elizabeth. She said yes.
The lovers were married on 20 November 1947 and were awarded the titles of Dukes of
Edinburgh. On 20 November 1947, Elizabeth married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten (born 10
June 1921), the son of Prince Andrew of Greece. Four children were born in their family:
In the family of Elizabeth and Philip were born four children:
1. Charles Philip Arthur George (born 14 November 1948), Prince of Wales;
2. Anna Elizabeth Alice Louise (PrincessRoyal) (born August 15, 1950)
3. Andrew Albert Christian Edward (born 19 February 1960), Duke of York
4. Edward Anthony Richard Louis (born March 10, 1964)
King George VI died on 6 February 1952. Elizabeth, was on holiday in Kenya when she
was proclaimed queen.
The coronation ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 [3].
2. Duties and working day of the Queen
Although the Queen is just a symbol these days, she still has enough important tasks that
she performs for her nation.
The Queen is the head of State. As head of state, the Queen makes official visits to other
countries. It also invites the leaders of other countries to the United Kingdom. During such visits,
she is usually at Buckingham Palace, or sometimes at Windsor Castle.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The Queen is the person who can declare a
state of war in the state.
The head of the English Church. The Queen is the head of the English Church – a
position that all monarchs have held since the time of Henry VIII. The Queen sets up meetings
between the bishops and the Prime Minister.
Responsibilities in the government. Has the right to appoint the Prime Minister, as well as
to dissolve or not dissolve the Parliament. Every day, the Queen is delivered "red boxes" that are
full of documents from ministers in the government and Commonwealth officials. They must be
read and, if necessary, signed by the Queen.
A representative of the nation. The Queen represents the nation at festive ceremonies. For
example, on Memorial Day, the Queen lays a wreath at the monument to those who died in the
war.
