АннотацияIn the modern conditions of globalization of the scientific community, the transition to two-level training, the requirements for the scientific activity of graduates of master's programs are increasing. As stated in the Federal State Educational Standard HPE 3++ at the master's level, graduates should be ready for "... independent preparation of publications in domestic and foreign publications ...". They should be able to write an abstract in English for a Russian-language article on the topic of the study. In addition, in accordance with the independently established educational standard of Tomsk Polytechnic University in the fields and specialties, the abstract is a mandatory part of the master's thesis, and must be written in Russian and a foreign language. The 1-page abstract (in each language) should contain a concise summary of the main content of the work, including the most important conclusions and suggestions. In addition, according to a survey conducted by teachers of profile disciplines conducting the training of undergraduates in a foreign language at Tomsk Polytechnic University, the abstract in English is the first written text that is registered in the database after the defense of the master's thesis. And although writing articles in English for the defense of a master's thesis is not a prerequisite in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard, but in practice, many masters prepare articles on the topic of their research for publication in HAC journals, Scopus databases, Web of Science and, accordingly, they are already preparing not only the text of the abstract, but also the text of the article entirely in a foreign (English) language. Accordingly, we conclude that teaching undergraduates of non-linguistic areas to write annotations in English is relevant and necessary.The ability to write an abstract correctly is one of the most highly specialized skills of academic writing. The abstract is the first in the text, is an important part of any scientific article in native and foreign languages, is read more often than any other part of the article, and should reflect all the main points of the written work (Margaret A. Winker). The word "abstract" comes from the Latin word "abstractus". In our work, we will understand annotations as a secondary, reproductively productive text of scientific style, created as a result of compressing the information of the primary text of a more massive volume, serving to quickly find the necessary information. The following types of annotations to scientific publications can be distinguished: 1)Descriptive abstracts are characteristic of the humanitarian, psychological and social sciences. They are usually very short (50-100 words).
