The title of Harold Pinter's drama "Betrayal" perfectly captures the essence of its narrative. In the plot, we have as many as three obvious cheaters (I would like to draw attention to the fact that Juditt, most likely, is unfaithful to her husband). However, the relationship of the characters is still very different from each other.

For example, Emma and Jerry are an example of a couple that suits each other. However, due to the fact that they met at the wrong time, they would never have made a successful married couple. The reason for this is that Jerry met Emma only when she was already walking down the aisle with Robert. However, the feelings that Emma and Jerry experience are love, which, over time, turns into affection. Their love has become an attachment ever since they stopped seeing each other often, sold their apartment, and immersed themselves in their own family lives.

I can tell that the relationship between Emma and Robert is colder. Robert also cheated on Emma, and over time, even found out about Emma and Jerry's relationship. However, this did not prevent the continuation of their family life, which, perhaps, completely cooled down. It's also important to mention that Robert is sexist and doesn't have much respect for Emma. He even allowed domestic violence against his wife, which indicates the poor state of the relationship. Moreover, it is worth paying attention to the fact that the relationship between Robert and Emma is the same throughout the drama. Robert is too passionate about himself and his work, apparently.

In the future, I have the impression that Jerry will continue to fixate on Emma, and that she will eventually become close to the writer Casey. Robert, in turn, even knowing about his wife's infidelities, will not get divorced, as this will only create unnecessary problems. It will be easier for him to continue to cheat on his wife, exactly the same as she does.

2.Discussing a crime story: Choose one of A. Christie’s stories from The Thirteen Problems (but NOT The Four Suspects and The Tuesday Night Club ) and analyze it

I chose a story called "Gold Bars". In this story, a mixed type of narration was used. It means that at first there was a dialogue, a little later - a first-person story (when the story was told by Raymond West). As we all know, Agatha Christie's stories often use the frame story method, which means branching, consisting of peculiar "puzzles", which ultimately make up a full-fledged story. In detective stories, the use of this method allows you to intrigue the reader, complicate his task to predict the plot.

The composition of the plot of the story "Gold Bars" can be divided into exposition, complication, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, denouement.

The exposition of the narrative is a demonstration to the reader of the situation at the beginning of the story, namely, Raymond tells the background of his acquaintance with John Newman.

Complication is observed when Raymond begins to tell the story.

Rising action - the moment when Newman disappeared.

The climax is the discovery of a mark on the wheel of Kelvin's truck.

Resolution - the moment when Raymond gave the floor to his listeners.

Denouement is the moment Sir Henry tells the real story of John Newman.

In this story, there are almost all members of The Tuesday Night Club who were originally - Miss Marple - an old maid, an amateur detective; Raymond West - Miss Marple's nephew, a young writer; Joyce Lamprier - artist, Raymond's girlfriend; Dr. Pender - an old priest; Mr Peterik is a local lawyer. As far as we know, all members of the club are united by one goal - the disclosure and discussion of crimes. In addition to the members of this club, there are other characters in the story - John Newman (an acquaintance of Raymond West), Inspector Badgworth, Mr. Kelvin (the owner of the bar in West's story). All of these characters were assigned different roles in the story. The main role was played by characters from Raymond's narrative. And some of the club members barely even spoke in the story.

The main character in the story is Raymond West. He, undoubtedly, differs from others in his slightly naive disposition. Also, he is characterized by a huge craving for adventure. Since Raymond is a rather young man, his adventures sometimes take on a dangerous character. Like in this story, for example.

After reviewing Crime Fiction Rules, I would like to tell you more about everything. Agatha Christie, in her narration, and in the entire collection of short stories "Thirteen Problems", really created memorable detective stories. The main character of the detective is Miss Marple. Also, the crimes that are revealed in her detective are quite significant, which is what the manual requires. Also, members of the club regularly encounter worthy and inventive criminals. Also, Agatha Christie adheres to the rule of early demonstration of suspects in a crime during the narration. All hooks in the narration are also understandable and, sometimes, even obvious to the reader. In general, the detective stories of Agatha Christie are really reference. It is possible that Crime Fiction Rules were created on her detective stories.

I want to say that I did not manage to solve the crime until the end of the story, because I did not at all assume that John Newman would be a person who is not who he claims to be. I was sure that the main villain is the owner of the Three Anchors bar - Kelvin. However, I was wrong.

I believe that every crime should be solved, and the criminals should be punished. However, in harsh realities, this is not the case. Criminals avoid punishment for three reasons: because of their professionalism; due to the unprofessionalism of law enforcement officers; by chance or luck.

In the story "Gold Bars", fortunately, the police showed skill and nevertheless revealed the real identity of John Newman. I think that this was done when they "split" Kelvin, who probably knew what was happening on his territory. Therefore, the so-called "John Newman" is serving his sentence in Princeton Prison.

The main subtext in the "Gold Bars" denouement can be called the rule - do not trust unfamiliar people and do not get involved in adventures with them, as Raymond West did!

The main idea and message of the story "Gold Bars" is the motivation to check their dubious connections. Also, the author demonstrates that ill-wishers can use you to achieve their goals, because it became clear that John Newman used Raymond West as an ideal witness who could help hide the crime and confuse the police.
