Ex.49.Paraphrase the following sentences so as to use infinitives of result:

Ex.51.Translate the sentences into English, using infinitives:

COMPLEX OBJECT

The Complex Object is a construction which consists of a noun or a pronoun in the objective case (me, him, her, us etc) and an infinitive (with or without ‘to’) or participle I (the ‘ing-form’). It replaces a clause.

e.g. Я видел, как он вошел в дом. – I saw him enter the house.

Мы хотим, чтобы Том пришел. – We want Tom to come.

The Complex Object is used after certain groups of verbs:

After verbs of physical perception (to see, to hear, to feel, to watch, to notice) we use Participle I to express an action in progress and Infinitive without ‘to’ to express a single completed action or a repeated action

e.g. I saw you dancing. (action in progress)

Suddenly I felt somebody touch my shoulder (single action)

I’ve often heard her play the guitar. (repeated action)

After the verbs to let and to make we use the Infinitive without ‘to’

e.g. My parents made me clean my room every day.

We don’t let the students use dictionaries at the exam.

After verbs expressing wish, request or order (to want, would like/love/hate/prefer, to expect, to tell, to order, to ask etc) we use the Infinitive with ‘to’

e.g. I expect you to work harder next year.

I’d like my brother to drive me to the airport.

the verbs of mental perception – to consider, to believe, to find, to know (only with state verbs and usually with to be)

e.g. Everybody considers him (to be) an honest person.

Ex.73. Put a form of ‘make’ or ‘let’ and a suitable verb into each gap.

1. My children usually go to bed early, but I … them … TV until 10 pm at the weekend.
2. I don’t like the sight of blood. It … me … ill when I see it.
3. My parents weren’t strict with me at all. They … me … what I wanted.
4. But they thought that education was very important, so they … me … hard for my exam.

Use the simple infinitive with or without ‘to’ in the Complex Object.

3. I’d like you (attend) these seminars.
4. The producer made me (change) the script.
5. We didn’t expect them (act) so brilliantly.
6. The doctor told him (drink) tonics.
7. Why didn’t you let me (drop) this subject?
8. I consider him (be) a superb lecturer.
9. We watched him (take) a syringe and (give) her an injection.
10. I wouldn’t like you (have) stomachache during the journey.
11. We noticed him (enter) the hall of residence.
12. I’ve never watched actors (make) up before going onto the stage
13. My parents didn’t allow me (leave) school at 16.
14. Please, don’t ask me (learn) the lines by heart.

Paraphrase the sentences using the Complexе Object.

1. He slipped and fell. I saw it. 2. We did not expect that he would return so soon. 3. The doctor touched the boy's leg. The boy felt it. 4.She bent and picked up something from the floor. The policeman saw it. 5. I expect that you will join our excursion. 6. We had not expected that she would reply, but she did. 7. We knew that he was a clever man. 8.
